Makeup by Amera PH traces its roots back to 2013, when its founder, Joy Benamera, took a leap of faith and began her journey as a freelance makeup artist after leaving her corporate position at Deutsche Bank in BGC.

Determined to build a professional career in the beauty industry, she invested extensively in her education and continuously refined her craft. She completed three specialized courses at a local makeup school in the Philippines: HD Beauty & Fashion Makeup, Bridal & Fashion Hairstyling, and HD Pro Airbrush Makeup. She further pursued international training at the Academy of Freelance Makeup in London, where she earned a Professional Make-up and Session Stylist Certificate, and received a Diploma of Specialist Make-up Services from the Australian College of Hair Design and Beauty Manila.

Over the next seven years, her experience expanded well beyond the bridal industry. Her portfolio grew to include theater, editorial, television commercial, and runway makeup, allowing her to work across different platforms and develop a versatile approach to professional makeup artistry. Despite this diversity, beauty and bridal makeup remained close to her heart.

In 2020, amid the disruption brought by the pandemic, she made the difficult decision to step away from the wedding industry. At the time, she felt that her passion for continuously learning and improving her craft had diminished. Rather than continue offering services without the same commitment to growth, she chose to put her brushes down and return her focus to her corporate career in the chemical trading industry.

For several years, her professional life centered on corporate responsibilities and projects where she could see tangible results from her work.

Then, in 2024, something changed.

Amid a busy corporate career, she found herself drawn back to her brushes. The desire to create, experiment with color, and work with her hands gradually returned. What began as a simple urge to create again became a realization that her passion for makeup had never truly left.

She began rebuilding her portfolio through carefully planned photoshoots and collaborations with models, eventually opening her calendar to clients once again. With every project, her confidence in her craft grew—and so did her appreciation for the artistry she had once set aside.

In 2026, she took another significant step by joining forces with two fellow makeup artists she had met throughout her journey. Together, they returned to the bridal fair scene, marking a new chapter for the brand and a meaningful return to the industry she had once left behind.

The return came with its share of nerves. After years away from the bridal industry, stepping back into the spotlight and introducing her work to a new generation of couples was both exciting and daunting. But it also reaffirmed why she started in the first place: the love of creating beauty, the commitment to her craft, and the joy of helping clients feel confident in their own skin.

Today, Makeup by Amera PH, formerly known as Joy Benamera Makeup Artist, represents more than a return to the industry. It represents years of experience, continued learning, a willingness to evolve, and a renewed passion for artistry.

With a journey that has taken her from corporate life to freelance artistry, from bridal makeup to commercial and editorial work, and eventually back to the wedding industry, Makeup by Amera continues to create with the same intention that has shaped her career from the beginning.
